6 Steps to Help You Become a Better Photographer

When starting a new hobby such as Photography, it can be just as daunting as it is exciting. You’ve picked up your brand new Camera, fantastic, but what next? There’s a lot more to it than just the standard one click and you’re done taking of Photos on your Phone. However don’t let that put you off, if you’re willing to learn and be patient with yourself and your Camera, you’ll fall in love with Photography more and more each Day.

In this blog I will go through various processes and ideas which will help you to step up your Photography game with some easy and simple steps.

Patience is Key

Like everything in Life, things take time, trust the process. It may take a while for you to get to the level you want to be, just remember it’s not an overnight process. The ability to pursue your Photography passion is the main goal here, use your time wisely. Start simple, when going for a Walk take your Camera with you, even taking the most basic of images will help you introduce yourself to the world of Photography, and furthermore you’ll be learning more and more about how your Camera works.

Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

This can be a tricky one, because we all do it. However the thing to remember is that everyone has their own unique style, there’s no right or wrong way to take a photo! Focus on yourself and your Art, it’s much more fun when you just go out there and take your own Photos, rather than trying to mimic someone else’s!

Never Stop Improving

Everyday’s a School Day right!? The best way to learn is to just go out and play around and experiment with your Camera taking Photos. Watching YouTube videos and reading Books will only get you so far, try different techniques such as Long-Exposure, or use a different Lens, any little adjustments you make and learn will be beneficial in the long term.

A Little Help From My Friends

Sometimes meeting up with like-minded people can be incredibly helpful and beneficial. Not only can you share your experiences and learn from one another, you also gain new Friends and connections in your Life.

Watch and Observe

Photography makes us look for the little details in every moment. Stop and take your time to look at a scene that catches your eye, what stands out, and what can you focus on. Sometimes it’s even the little things in Life.

Who’s to Judge?

Ultimately, the biggest judge of your work is YOURSELF! Validation is something that motivates us to push forward, but don't rely on the opinion of others. Only you will know why you took that picture, and what makes it so great! Furthermore, sometimes being your own harshest critique pushes you to expand your skills, gaining that desire to become and excel at being a better Photographer.
