Photographing the Journey
As habit goes, when we are on the move and heading somewhere, we don’t usually get the camera out of the bag until we reach our final destination. What if we were to say photographing the travel was part of the journey, not just the A-to-B, but the bookends and the start/finish to your photo albums too. Travel days can be extremely boring, but there are many stories to be told within them too.
Over the years I’ve learnt that keeping the camera stored in the bag whilst on the move instantly becomes a regret. The moments of action, a few minutes of madness, and the calm and peaceful Sunsets, all within simple reach, yet not within the camera lens. If possible, I’d always advise to keep your camera at hand to capture those fleeting moments, there are opportunities galore when it comes to capturing movement within our world of transportation.
On the occasions I have remembered to have the camera at hand on travel days, it has resulted in successful photos and beautiful memories to look back on, they may not become the main focal points of your purpose to the destination, but you can gain some great results all the same. Therefore next time you have a travel day and a journey to begin, try your hand at photographing the journey too. Whether you travel on foot, by car, take a boat, train or a plane, document your movement through photos, start your travel story right away.
