Why Photography, and Why Travel?

I guess you could say Photography and Travel go hand-in hand, a match made in heaven. You do one, and the other follows and comes naturally.

In this opening blog, I’ll be covering a number of reasons why and how both Photography and Travel can be explored and enjoyed together but also separately, and furthermore how they can both be beneficial to you.

When it comes to Photography, you don’t need the most expensive equipment or the latest specs, it’s all about using what you have available to you. For example, after many Years of Traveling on and off and simply using my Phone as a Camera, it wasn’t until early 2022 that I decided to take it a step further and invest in taking photos and my Photography at a more serious level.

Over time, if you find you like taking photos, you’ll find Photography is something which you’ll thoroughly enjoy, and a subject in which you can constantly evolve within whilst sharpening your skills with every Shot taken. In addition to this, you don’t have to go far to practice your Photography skills, start local, take your new Camera with you on Walks, you’ll quickly learn and improve as a Photographer.

Overall, Photography is all about perspective, a game of angles and edges. Furthermore, the funny thing is how we all view things differently, no two shots will ever be the same, Photography is completely subjective. Within every Shot, there is a story to be told.

Moving onto the Travel side of things, Traveling has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember, and it has allowed me to reach all corners of the World, viewing our Planet through a wide variety of different cultures and perspectives. From taking that first step aged 18 with a Friend to Canada, over 10 Years down the line, I haven't looked back since.

The first step is always the hardest. Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone to step foot and away from your Home at first can be daunting, but also extremely rewarding. There’s a whole wide World out there, and an awful lot to see. Whether it be with Friends, Group Travel or indeed Solo, exploring new Places is always an exciting and amazing experience.

Perspective

The main reason I always feel how both Photography and Travel can be extremely beneficial to you is through perspective. Travel will open your eyes and show you how the rest of the World lives. No two places in the World are the same, some Rich some Poor, some Hot some Cold, you get the idea. Different cultures and ideologies dictate how each Country of the World operate, and it’s extremely fascinating how each place can be so different to one another. Granted, Traveling isn’t all rainbows and sunshine, and the World isn’t all glamorous like Social Media tends to show us, however the more you explore, the more you’ll appreciate what you have, and how lucky you really are.

Through the use of Photography, I’ve found that you’ll start to pick up and notice the little things in life a lot more. By that I mean taking things slower, and learning to take in more of what’s around you. The more and more you start to take Photography seriously, you’re perspective on what you see and what makes a good photo will change.

Confidence

It’s all about confidence Baby! Or so the song goes… By going out and doing Photography, and also by Traveling, you’re helping yourself beneficially. Self belief plays a huge role in your confidence and everyday living, it’s what makes us who we are and how we go about life. Constantly learning about yourself and how to adapt is what will help shape your future. Furthermore, through both of these things, you are always exploring and learning new ideas. As far as motivational purposes go, that’s a pretty good reason if you ask me.

Memories

Now this is a big reason as to Why Photography, and Why Travel? Both of these subjects are something that you can look back on throughout life with a smile on your face. You can never take too many photos in life, and you can always delete those you don’t want after. Photos can act as a source of remembrance, they show times where you were at your best enjoying life, and the key fact is, Photos = Memories.

Traveling and seeing different parts of the World will give you memories for a lifetime. From meeting new friends and exploring new cities, to trying new foods and experiencing different cultures, the World really can be your oyster if possible and you want it to be. As mentioned earlier, it’s just about taking that first leap, and once you overcome that hurdle, you’ll be wanting to Travel and see the World forever more.
